A Closer Look at Twitter
Last week we discussed using LinkedIn to market yourself and what this vast social networking site can do for you. This week, let’s delve into Twitter and what opportunities are available to you.
Twitter is a service for friends, family, and co–workers to communicate and stay connected through the exchange of quick, frequent answers to one simple question: What are you doing?
Twitter has become one of the hottest social networking tools for marketing yourself. By “tweeting” your blogs, websites, latest achievements and more, you can bring yourself to the attention of potential clients, consumers, vendors and a virtual plethora of freelancing opportunities.
Potentially the numbers are huge on Twitter. If you have a specific niche that you are educated on, the better the writing and the more followers you will get equals more marketing potential. There are many companies out there that offer Twitter applications that can help you save a lot of time. These are professional applications that can manage your Twitter account for you and are mostly done by a computer program, I recommend this sort of help because it will make it very easy for you to market yourself and promote any business opportunities.
Why do so many people seem to like Twitter? Simplicity has played an important role in Twitter’s success. People are eager to connect with other people and Twitter makes that simple. Twitter asks one question, “What are you doing?” Answers must be under 140 characters in length and can be sent via mobile texting, instant message, or the web.
How Does Twitter Work? With Twitter, you can stay hyper–connected to potential employers and always know what they are doing. Or, you can stop following them any time. You can even set quiet times on Twitter so you’re not interrupted.
Twitter puts you in control and becomes a modern antidote to information overload.
Twitter’s core technology is a device agnostic message routing system with rudimentary social networking features. By accepting messages from SMS, web, mobile web, instant message, or from third party API projects, Twitter makes it easy for folks to stay connected. A social/play and a social/communicate aspect to Twitter makes it productive as a promotional tool for pointing to interesting things you’ve found on the web as well as a tool for building credibility and influence. Followed over time, you can gain insight into people you may end up hiring, getting hired by, working for, partnering with or simply socializing with!

Freelancing is my life. It's what I know, it's what I'm good at, and I can't imagine doing anything else. You can call me "Freddie the Freelancer"… because I'd prefer not to use my real name for reasons that I'll tell you about in a moment.
