Spa Magazine seeks a versatile web editor to manage and maintain its website, spamagazine.com, as well as the magazine’s broader online presence.

The web editor role combines both editorial and technical expertise; successful applicants will not only be editorially minded and generally web savvy but capable of completing basic coding tasks and familiar with SEO, content management systems, and online best practices.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

* Coding and publishing all of Spa’s online content using a custom content management system (this includes selecting, re-sizing, and uploading images).
* Collaborating with the rest of the editorial staff to adapt the Spa magazine brand for the online arena; working with the team to generate web-exclusive content in Spa’s core categories (i.e. blog posts, polls, and news articles about beauty, travel, health, and the spa lifestyle)
* Growing the Spa brand through third-party social media outlets such as Facebook and Twitter
* Compiling and dispatching the magazine’s bi-weekly editorial e-newsletter

•Code and publish all of Spa’s online content using a both a custom content management system and the WordPress platform
•Select and format images to accompany online content

[managing]
• Manage and drive the daily and monthly editorial calendars and e-newsletters
• Cultivate relationships with and edit the regular postings of bloggers on various topics (health, fitness, mind/spirit, spa (treatment/travel) as well as third-party content providers
• Plan and manage the website’s editorial calendar
• Manage timelines, deliverables, and work flow on daily editorial functions and special editorial projects

[growing the online audience]

• Cultivate link and exchanges with other relevant sites
• Develop a deep understanding of the online community and develop interactive and fun user engagement programs
• Broaden the Spa brand’s online presence through third-party social media venues such as Facebook and Twitter
• Analyze site statistics and community feedback to drive continuous improvement and maximize traffic
• Optimize site’s search engine performance
• Research and suggest potential content partners (e.g. news and general travel or content sites that may be interested in licensing Spa content)
• Monitor site and story performance using in-house data tools
• Conceive and program interactive features

[editing]
• Adhere to Spa’s editorial tone and voice, in line with the brand’s personality and attributes
• Create content for bimonthly e-newsletters
• Manage the flow of copy from staff and freelance writers to publication
• Line edit all posts on the Spa editors’ blog
• Write display copy (heds, slugs) that captures the site’s tone

The candidate should know HTML coding, basic Photoshop, CMS platforms, and be familiar with online social networking websites. Candidate will also be enthusiastic and detail-oriented; have excellent time management skills; and be comfortable using online publication tools and working in a collaborative setting.

Position Summary

The Senior Web Developer will be responsible for developing sophisticated web sites and must know front-end web development at an expert level. You will work with best in class creative, technical, media and analytical talent coordinating innovation in the interactive space. This is a freelance position with a duration of 3-6 months.

Required Experience
• 5+ years experience in web development
• Expert, hands-on knowledge of XHTML, CSS, JavaScript, AJAX as well as other web development/production tools
• Experience translating comps and wireframes into flexible and usable code templates
• Experience with Photoshop and Illustrator
• Strong working knowledge developing cross platform/browser compatibility for dynamic web applications
• Familiarity with and adherence to web standards
• Experience developing large customer facing websites
• Experience tasking and reviewing work of more junior web developers
• Effective verbal and written communication skills and ability to interact professionally with a diverse group of people
