Charter Oak State College is looking for innovative instructional designers with proven expertise and creativity in designing instruction for online environments for a course management system such as Moodle or Blackboard to work as independent contractors. You will design academic and training programs serving audiences worldwide. You will take the lead on projects and collaborate with subject matter experts, other instructional designers, and members of the production team. You will also serve as a consultant and adviser to about how to integrate technology effectively in teaching and learning.

The Instructional Designer will work with College faculty to design distance learning courses, and adapt existing and develop new courses for Web-based and/or video streaming delivery. Through collaboration with College staff and faculty, this position will determine appropriate instructional design methodology, provide guidance on the best tool(s) to facilitate learning and ensure that course deployment deadlines are met. Additional responsibilities include designing and reviewing course materials to maximize adult learning and educational outcomes.

Responsibilities:  Manage course development schedule processes with college designee, and/or other staff members in order to meet the instructional needs of the College; provide advice on effective, efficient, and economical instructional tools, techniques, and media; recommend active, authentic, and discipline-specific learning strategies for adult learners; suggest special applications for use in software (animation, graphics, digitized sound, video-editing, templates, etc.); Evaluate and ensure the quality, accuracy, and effectiveness of all courses within the learning management systems in accordance with College policies and instructor / learner feedback; Ensure compliance with legal and industry guidelines (e.g. ADA, SCORM, etc…) in the development of instructional content; Serve as the design expert for subject matter experts/course developers; on-going learning of learning management systems including areas of design, and other appropriate applications (i.e. macromedia, Dreamweaver, Flash etc.) while using this knowledge to further develop and refine the courses within learning management systems; Work with course development teams to produce, refine, and present multimedia components.

Successful candidates will have a deep practical and theoretical knowledge about designing instruction for adults, and they will possess a keen recognition of the benefits that technology offers in enabling and supporting learning. Any experience in rapid prototyping, iterative design, or other practices that streamline development processes will give an edge to a candidate. Successful candidates will have excellent interpersonal skills, an openness to experimenting with new learning techniques and technologies, and a record of being innovative, taking initiative, and seizing new opportunities for enhancing learning. They must be able to prioritize competing demands and work requirements, and work independently and interdependently. Experience as an instructor and facilitator in the classroom, online, and in blended environments will give an added advantage.

Freelance Interactive Senior Designer

Fluid is searching for a senior interactive designer with the passion, talent and experience to create truly innovative web experiences. We are looking for a concept-driven visual problem solver with rock-solid design chops and a desire to define the next generation of consumer shopping experiences for digital retail. This critical role is responsible for designing “best-practice” shopping experiences that are elegant, intuitive, achieve marketing goals and are brand-appropriate.

At Fluid you will be responsible for creating interactive experiences for global consumer brands such as The North Face, Vans, JanSport, Calvin Klein, Lucky Brand, Craftsman, and Kenmore.

As Freelance Senior Designer based in our San Francisco offices, you will perform in a supportive design role on select accounts from concept to launch. You will be hands-on and conceptual, creating multiple design solutions as well as working collaboratively with your team – which will include other designers, user experience/IAs, account management, project management and production artists. You will work closely with your Creative Director, ACD, Art Director and clients throughout a project – interpreting creative requirements, executing design deliverables and iterating to perfection.
