African Prestige is a glossy, four-color magazine that covers entertainment events and seeks to provide social, political, and economic perspectives on issues affecting the African community. We are in search of freelance writers who can provide quality writing and editorial content that deal with issues relevant to the African global demographic. We accept submissions for articles, short stories, essays, book/music reviews, and poems for consideration.

Our current departments include: travel, fashion/beauty, health, business/politics, inspirational, profile pieces, and music/arts

Pay is $30-75 depending on length/type.

The target readership is the savvy, sophisticated, and trend conscious African public, a public that is fairly sophisticated on political and social issues and spans a wide age range. Hence, these articles should provide an easy, yet thoughtful reading experience.

Contributors also receive complimentary copies of the issue in which their contribution is published.

The Forward, a prestigious national Jewish newspaper founded in 1897, is developing a network of freelance reporters available to cover stories in major urban centers, such as Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Miami and Boston for our English language edition. We are also interested in writers based abroad. We are looking for journalists able to pitch ideas and accept short-notice assignments on issues of interest to our readers who can tell the story in generally 800-1,200 words. These include stories dealing with Judaism, religion and spirituality, labor, civil rights, interethnic and interfaith relations, U.S.-Israel relations and Middle East-related activism, Jewish culture and arts, and personality profiles. A willingness to work with editors to hone stories to a fine point of clarity is a must.

ABOUT THIS POSITION:

• Claim assignments from our database that you’re most interested and qualified to write about
• Assignments vary in length and format with most averaging 300–500 words and addressing thousands of unique topics such as diabetes, cancer, nutrition, mental health and exercise
• Payments are issued twice a week for each completed article. Current writers earn an average of $20 – $25 range depending on their familiarity with the topics and their writing speed
