The Zen of Having Too Much Time

How much time do you have on your hands? If you are becoming a freelancer, you fall into two categories.
You are unemployed and trying to make a living for yourself and family, which is the right thing to do.
The other side to this is that you have a job, but decided to try freelancing on the side until you build a business.
Both are fair and good.
One thing you have to know about becoming a freelancer is that you will have time on your hands, but no clients. Well, at least not at first.
What It Means
Having too much time can influence your thinking. What should you do during that time? If you are like many business owners, you wait until people come to you.
This is bad.
Get into the client dance now! You have to go out there and get clients!
You can start with one. Do a good job and meet deadlines. That one client likely will enjoy your work and tell others about you, which brings you more clients.
It starts with one.
Staving Off Laziness
During that time that you have too much time on your hands when becoming a freelancer, you have to starve laziness. It can creep up on you. Waiting on clients to come to you can make you resist working on anything.
What can you do during that time to bring in money?
Keep busy with creating passive income products.
- WordPress sites give you a great skill that clients want in a website design business.
- Audio recordings are popular because many people want to learn on the go. Create a series or information about a topic you teach and know about.
- Video tutorials on writing, editing, graphic design and website design are products you could create during your “too much time.”
- Create banners, logos and other graphics that buyers want. You can find plenty of sites to upload and sell them.
When you are becoming a freelancer, treat it as a full-time job still. You have to remain consistent, just as you would while working for someone else. This is the way to get results.

Freelancing is my life. It's what I know, it's what I'm good at, and I can't imagine doing anything else. You can call me "Freddie the Freelancer"… because I'd prefer not to use my real name for reasons that I'll tell you about in a moment.
