Web Developer

POSITION:

We at //dabbledoo are excited to have an opportunity to expand our team.  //dabbledoo is a digital agency with a growing client list and an incredible roadmap.  We (two of us) work remotely (NY and STL) and are very flexible with times.??We are currently seeking a freelance web developer.  Our development projects are usually built on the LAMP stack with ExpressionEngine (EE).  Knowledge of EE and/or CodeIgniter would be a huge help as we consider applicants.  Experience with other CMS products is also a plus, but not a requirement (especially WordPress and Drupal).

The important thing is getting your work done well and on time, and hopefully having some fun. You will be employed on an hourly remote contractor basis.  If successful, this project work may lead to a fulltime position (or an extended freelance contract).

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to create a good looking website in your favorite text editor from scratch.
  • Experience working with XHTML/CSS/JavaScript for basic front-end stuff.
  • Familiarity with Prototype, Scriptaculous, or jQuery.
  • Some hands-on experience with web application architecture and relational database design.
  • Some knowledge of search engine optimization (SEO).
  • Familiarity with the UNIX environment.
  • Understanding of cross-browser compatibility concerns (Firefox vs. Webkit vs. IE6/7/8).
  • Some experience with PHP or another similar programming language.
  • Familiarity with version control (svn or git)
  • Experience writing plugins/add-ons for a CMS.
  • Must be available during business hours via chat, IM, or phone, and nights as needed.
  • Strong written communication skills to keep in touch with remote team.
  • Should be willing to commit to and deliver by deadlines.
  • Expect to be in constant contact with virtual team.
  • You don’t need to be a designer, but you should care about how your sites look.
  • Positive attitude, professionalism, and a great sense of humor.

What’s the position?

We’re looking for an experienced developer interested in taking on a fast paced development with an aggressive release cycle. The work will challenge and expand your skill set. Although you can work remotely, we do prefer if you are located in the central New York region.

This developer position is a 40 hour a week position.  We are looking for a long-term addition to the team, with a four-week freelance evaluation period.

You will join our task-oriented project development team, take part in team meetings and develop from written specifications with specific deliverables and deadlines.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Expert level PHP skills (min. 4 years experience – obviously including OOP)
  • Experience with SVN or GIT
  • Extensive MVC Experience
  • Storing and retrieving data with MySQL and Active Record
  • Experience with a NoSQL db solutions (CouchDB, Mongo, Redis)
  • JavaScript Fundamentals/jQuery
  • Understanding of cross-browser and cross-platform compatibility
  • Proficiency with standards-based HTML/CSS
  • Experience with 3rd party APIs (FB, Twitter, etc)
  • Superior English communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Within 1 time zone of EST (or willing to relocate to be)
  • Linux guru
