Web Designer/Developer

DESCRIPTION:

Images & Voices of Hope (IVOH) is seeking a talented designer/developer or small team to redesign and build our online presence. We are an international non-profit organization whose mission is to strengthen the role of media as agents of world benefit through dialogue.  We would like a new website that captures the essence of the work we do, but also one that employs current design trends and standards. Since we would like to showcase work in many different forms of media, our ideal designer will have a portfolio of innovative user experiences in photography, audio, video, art and the written word. Additionally, our community is spread out around the world, and so we seek a designer with social media/community building experience to best know how to bring this group together and keep them engaged online.

You’ll work with key members of our core team to present wireframes, initial comps and final designs. We intend to launch the site on the WordPress platform, so the design should take into account its functionality and CMS limitations. Applicants must have proven experience in web design and social media, and an online portfolio for our review. For further information about who we are and what we do, please visit our current website, http://www.ivoh.org.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Knowledge of WordPress administration, understanding the elements of that system and how to integrate the design into a working theme
  • An ability to produce appropriate sketches, wireframes, navigation models
  • Fluency with evolving web standards and technologies, usability best practices and an interest in emerging interactive design trends
  • An excellent visual design aesthetic that incorporates typography, color and other aspects of visual design
  • Collaborate well with others while having the ability to work independently
  • Detail orientated and strive to achieve the highest levels of quality in the work you produce
  • Can work remotely with our team on the US East coast.
  • Additional skills/background that are a plus:
  • Formal Design Education
  • CSS/HTML experience/knowledge
  • Previous work with non-profit organizations
  • Experience with usability testing
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Please submit your proposal (including letter of introduction, resume, rate information and online portfolio) to admin@ivoh.org.

Incubated video startup Kinio, seeks partner/engineer

DESCRIPTION:

First off, thanks for your time. Really excited to pitch you on this gig.
I’m the co-founder of a new startup, Kinio (http://kin.io)
Think netflix for independent filmmakers. A turn key platform where filmmakers (this term includes a broad user base) can upload their films and sell them online.
We have recently been accepted into an incubator program as part of the TechStars network. We have received an initial Series AA funding commitment in addition existing seed funding from co-founders.

The Gig
We are looking to contract the right engineer to build a *very small* MVP (minimum viable product) over 6-7 weeks for internal beta and additional traction.
We would be looking to cut the check and pull the trigger March 18th-20th.
The start-up is based in New Orleans (now), but as a startup we are remaining flexible, and you would NOT be required to relocate.

Our role
We would provide user research, branding, UX design, wireframes, feature list, mvp feature list, visual design, and frontend development. Much of this is done, of course, what’s holding the completion of certain elements is the lack of our cornerstone engineer.
We’ve done a good analysis of the CDN/cloud streaming/file server landscape, open source players, cloud transcoding vs FFmpg and so on. I’ve stretched my technical limits in this aspect and would need the engineer’s further guidance as we develop the MVP.
Overall, we’ve got technical chops, but our design, marketing, and fundraising chops are better.

REQUIREMENTS:

Your role
There’s some existing frontend and backend code, but nothing we’re married to. We’re trying to find someone who can really drive this part of the project forward, and that means you can do things largely how you see fit; keep stuff, toss stuff, whatever. We’re looking for a founder, not an employee; we’re not looking to hamstring you or micromanage you.
Additional background
No worries on scope creep, we can’t go over the 7 week limit on our end. Worst case, it’s a fun, short-term consulting gig on a cool product.
Previously, I founded a profitable film + digital production company where we have worked for Coke, Converse, Salesforce, etc within the year and a half since founding. And before that, I was a PHP developer (3 years) and UX architect (3 years).
We have also done due diligence with our plan, and financials- the ideal contractor would emerge as early employee/co-founder with large equity/salary. Of course that is up for discussion and the nature of the “fit” on both sides.
It’s a 174 billion dollar market, and these solutions exist in other verticals (see photoshelter.com, 60k users @ 20$/month) so we are on a fast track to lead this revolution in micro market independent film distribution.
Looking forward to where this could lead,
- Benjamin Reece
Co-Founder/CEO, Kinio

Advisor to the Mayor & Logo Vector Specialist

We are looking to do some design work for our new city office.  We have developed a new logo for the Office of the Mayor and are in need of a graphic designer to help put some good ole’ spit shine on our work thus far.

REQUIREMENTS:

The workflow would be taking an old litho we have in digital format from the Library of Congress, extracting the portion of the logo, tracing and converting it into a vector file for Illustrator, and putting some final touches on the logo.
From there we will set forth on a journey to finalize and design all of our printed materials: letterhead, business cards, etcestera using that design as the centerpiece.

For starters we are willing to name a holiday after you, possibly a road, give you the keys to the city, and throw in some letterpress coasters or business cards?

*We’re looking to build a long-term relationships!

Please email examples of your work as it pertains to your logo design and implementation ability using the subject line Mayor’s Logo to mel@melpennington.com

*Copies of our actual logo concept thus far and peripherals are available upon request.
