Design Your Dream UX for a Q&A Community

DESCRIPTION:

You’ve seen dozens of Q&A sites from StackOverflow to Quora and Yahoo Answers. Most of the time the design and UX of these sites probably make your skin crawl. You know you could do better if given the time and the right tools.

So, here’s your chance!

DZone is building Qato – an extremely powerful social Q&A platform that is fully customizable with themes (imagine WordPress themes for Q&A communities.) You can make a Qato-powered Q&A community look and feel however you want it to, and that’s exactly what we’d like you to do. In fact, it’s pretty easy!

We’d like to sponsor the creation of several outstanding, original themes for our new system. These themes will be featured prominently and will be seen and used by a LOT of people, so you’ll get really solid exposure. Of course, you’ll also get paid, and it could become a recurring or ongoing gig.

REQUIREMENTS:

You don’t have to program, but you’ll need to be comfortable with template systems (we use Freemarker) and we’ll provide you tools to help you quickly and easily get started building a new theme with minimal hassle. Our theme SDK includes some examples that will be really useful, too.

We’re looking for insight and inspiration. Our project has three simple goals:

1. Help people with questions get answers easily and effectively.

2. Make it easy and worthwhile for people with answers to help people with questions.

3. Make it a joy for admins and moderators to manage their Q&A communities.

If these goals and this project get your gears turning, then drop us a line and let us know what you’d like to do. We’re willing to cover 40-50 hours of work at reasonable market prices for a really good theme. Several opportunities are available.

PHP Developer

DESCRIPTION:

We are looking to hire a freelance PHP developer to join our team. Your time will be spent writing new db driven applications and writing/maintaining code for existing sites that we have built.

REQUIREMENTS:

An ideal candidate would be self motivated, responsible, and takes lots of pride in their work. We’re looking for someone who can get the job done right the first time without hand holding and takes their job seriously.

Technical Requirements

  • Min 3 years experience in PHP, MySQL, and JavaScript (jQuery)
  • Working knowledge of HTML/CSS
