SmartBrief is seeking a freelance writer and a freelance editor with DVM degrees to help create a daily online business and consumer news e-mail publication in the following beat: veterinary medicine. Candidates would need to be available to start between 5 a.m. and 7 a.m. EST Monday through Friday.

What we’re looking for: Someone who is a board-certified veterinarian and who is passionate about animals. The ideal candidate has written for publications in the industry, and can meet deadlines with ease.

Our briefs summarize the top stories of the day for dozens of industry associations, and our freelancers work with our editors to shape that content. You will not be reporting or writing long-form articles in this position!

Applicants will be asked to complete a timed writing and editing test. This position is a telecommuting position.

Job Duties:

  • Search the Web to locate news articles and other information sources of interest to senior executives.
  • Select and summarize online articles, studies and other information for use in e-mail publications.
  • Use online publishing tools to create e-mail newsletters and other content.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • DVM degree.
  • Proven writing skills. (A timed test is given)
  • Ability to write quickly and accurately on deadline, starting at 5 a.m. or 6 a.m. EST, Monday through Friday.
  • Sophisticated understanding of how to find news and information on the Web.
  • Knowledge of Associated Press style.
  • Facility for using online publishing tools.
  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills.
  • Proven record of sharing responsibilities and managing multiple projects/deadlines simultaneously.

Support Specialist

DESCRIPTION:

Career Duties

Provide Site5 customers with amazing customer service and make sure we have the most problem free stable hosting possible! Plus with you being our eyes and ears on the ground it is up to you to make sure any repeat bugs or issues are escalated and fixed Day to Day Duties.

Provide customer support through our live chat on various L1 problems such as assisting with email client setup, troubleshooting FTP connection errors, and so on. Issues that cannot be resolved via live chat are escalated to a ticket in our helpdesk for our L2 team to continue troubleshooting through to resolution.

Secondary Responsibilities

  • Assist customers via our help desk.
  • Verify and provision new orders.

REQUIREMENTS:

Required Experience/Skills

  • Fluent written English, you must be totally fluent in fluent in written English. Spoken English does not have to be perfect, but we would prefer it to be.
  • You need to have experience in Linux, cPanel/WHM. We also expect you to have a decent understanding or willingness to learn the included sub sytems in the hosting environment such as Apache, DNS/BIND, MySQL, PHP, Ruby on Rails, Email/Exim/Courier.
  • Outstanding customer service and a desire to help people!
  • It is also great beneficial if you have experience with web hosting topics and open source software like WordPress, Drupal, ModX, phpBB, and so on!
  • Desire to better yourself and learn by reading and testing. If you don’t understand how WordPress works you need to have the drive to set up your own install and play with it.

The opening is full-time (40 hours/week). We are looking to fill the following shift:

Monday through Friday, 5am-1pm Eastern Time
