DESCRIPTION:
We are looking for part-time and full-time contract transcriptionists/editors to transcribe recorded audio and edit imperfect transcription using a proprietary internet-based software application. All work is done remotely, so you need a good computer and a high speed internet connection. The hours are flexible, but you should be willing to commit a minimum of 15 hours per week. To be a good candidate, you need to be able to work independently with minimal supervision, have the willingness to learn new software, and be able to work under pressure with time constraints.
REQUIREMENTS:
Required Qualifications
- College degree
- US resident
- Excellent written communication skills
- Perfect command of English usage, grammar, and punctuation
- Experience with computer word processing
- Typing ability of at least 75 wpm
- Proficiency with internet research and reference resources
Nice-to-Have Qualifications
- Familiarity with Microsoft Excel or spreadsheet applications
- Strong technical proficiency with computers and computer applications
Computer Requirements
- PC or Mac
- Minimum 2.0GHz processor, 1GB RAM, 5GB available disk space
- High speed internet connection
- Regular access to email

Compensation

Consultant – Copy Editor
DESCRIPTION:
Health Affairs, the nation’s leading peer-reviewed journal devoted to health policy, seeks an experienced copy editor to work on a contractual basis to edit 10 to 15 articles (roughly 2,000 to 5,000 words each) per month on an aggressive deadline schedule. This is a telecommuting position. Editor must have scheduling flexibility to be able to respond to editing demands on short notice. Familiarity with health policy is a plus. Experience editing in an academic journal environment is a plus. Strong rewrite skills are expected.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Substantive editing (in an electronic publishing environment), copyediting for Health Affairs style on papers to be accepted for publication in the journal..
- Edit to meet journal readability and accessibility goals.
- Edit multiple peer reviewed articles in narrow deadline windows.
- Reconcile author corrections.
- Coordinate all editing tasks closely with Managing Editor, Chief Copy Editor and other Health Affairs editors.
REQUIREMENTS:
ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Strong editing, writing, research, and communications skills.
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Five years’ publication experience, including copyediting.
- Computer proficiency (in Windows environment).
- Experience with editing in Word.
- Experience with Vancouver endnote style and Chicago Manual of Style.
- Experience with Excel is a plus.
- Experience editing charts and tables is a plus.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment with deadlines.
