Do you remember being told to ‘Do your homework’ as a child?  I hear myself say it over and over again at my house to my child.  And, yet I still need to do my homework as well!  Bummer.  As a freelancer it is crucial that to I do my homework and read each item and detail with a microscope.  Details are crucial to your reputation which is directly linked to your success as a freelancer!

Freelance work isn’t just about the end, it is more about the tools or means to the end. If you don’t have the right arsenal of knowledge and tools at your disposal, you better get them.  Being a member of a freelance network is a good way to get those tools or to find that knowledge you don’t possess.  Saying I don’t know how to do something and asking for help aren’t bad qualities, in fact, they are awesome qualities.  We all possess qualities and tools that others don’t, sharing that knowledge and helping others is an asset to the freelance community.

There are so many options out there that are amazing and a lot of the tools to help you be a more successful freelancer are free.  Yeah!  I have put together just a sample of some Internet tools that are at your disposal, you just have to do the homework and learn how you can utilize them in your arsenal of assets!

The point is if you do your homework, you will become an asset not only as a freelancer working for others, but in your freelance networkas someone who knows what they are talking about.  Showing that you have the knowledge because you did your homework and then sharing it makes you a ‘go to person’ for questions and possibly referrals for freelance gigs that match your skills.

Today’s world is all about networking and when you network, you need to bring along your bragging rights.  Just make certain to have done your homework to have earned those bragging rights!
