An industrial porcelain tile goes through a factory process during production. Porcelain tiles are made using a mixture of clays and sands. These materials are mined in a quarry and brought into the factory in a very raw form. Watch this video to learn how an industrial porcelain tile is made.
Once the materials are brought into the factory, they are put into a crusher machine which breaks up the larger pieces. Then the raw materials are put on a conveyor belt and sent to huge milling machines. Here the materials are ground into very tiny particles and mixed with water and other additives to create a suitable mixture. To make an industrial porcelain tile, cement in the form of andesite is put into the mixture. Once the andesite is mixed in, the mixture is put through a screen feeder, which works a lot like a cheese grater.
The rotating screw inside the machine pushes chunks of clay through holes which are then fed to an extrusion machine. Inside this machine, a vacuum removes all the air from the clay mix and a large screw presses the clay through a metal dye, and a sheet of material that will form the tiles is punched out of the machine. This part of the process is known as extrusion.
