What To Do When You Can’t Do It All

As a freelancer, I’m sure that it’s your desire to serve your clients to the best of your ability and keep them so happy that they come back to you for more work . (If that’s not your desire then you might want to rethink what you do).

For the most part, people come to you with normal requests and you do them.

If you’re a freelance graphic designer, people come to you looking for graphic design.

If you’re a freelance writer, people come to you looking for content.

Makes sense.

Backend PHP, Drupal, MySQL DB Developer

DESCRIPTION:

  • Saforian is a small, professional creative firm located in Northern Virginia. We are growing our team and looking for a talent.
  • Our flexible services focus on high-quality design, standards-based front-end code, and open source back-end development. We have a large variety of clients ranging from non-profits to restaurants to large corporations. Most of our exciting new projects are utilizing Drupal as the core CMS. Your role would be our primary back-end developer on these client sites: configuring Drupal, customizing existing modules, and creating custom ones when needed. You will also help define requirements for new projects, and take the lead in planning and developing new small-to-midsize PHP/MySQL web apps (outside of Drupal) for clients.
  • Being a creative firm, you will need to have a decent eye for design and coordinate with our visual and interface designers when developing user-friendly sites.
  • We do not have a central office, so you will be able to work independently from home. Preference will given to someone in the DC metropolitan area so we can still meet occasionally. Click here to read more »

Get More Business By Doing Less

090807pic[1]
I have actually had 2 freelancing careers in my life. The first one wasn’t so successful. As a result, I had to get a corporate marketing job and later I struck out again as a freelancer and enjoyed a far more successful foray into the biz the second time around.

One of the differences (although certainly not the only one) was that I specialized in a specific kind of writing the second time I freelanced.

You see, the first time I tried freelancing I accepted every job, no matter what it was and what industry it was in. And it wasn’t very profitable. I hate to admit it but I did a whole bunch of things and not a great job at any of them. Every new project required me to research new things (and that’s time consuming!). Click here to read more »
